Play

Play

The start of a year presents an opportunity for new beginnings: a chance to reflect and set new goals. To do this effectively, we first have to assess where we are. The health, work, play, love model is a good tool for figuring out what needs to change.

Play is the set of things that we do for pure joy. A well-designed life makes plenty of room for playtime. When assessing how you are doing in the play dimension you need to think about all the ways in which you enjoy your leisure time.

Most of us have plenty of time for play, but many of us are not intentional about how we spend that time. Do you make plans for joyful activities, or do you too often stumble to the couch and mindlessly waste a day? If binge watching shows is what brings you joy, then more power to you. If not, it might be time for a reset on the play dimension of your life.

It is rare to hear someone complain about the fact that they have too much play in their life. Most of us need to reconsider the balance between work and play. My belief is that is not just about the proper allocation of time, but a lack of focus on enjoying deliberate leisure activities. Go outside and play.
